Theme Song "Andy Warhol" by Strung Out

Hey guys and gals,
Just got word from Jordan Burns of Strung Out that I have permission to use a portion of their song for an intro for my reviews!  If you haven't heard of these guys, you NEED to check them out IMMEDIATELY!!!
Many of their influences/inspiration include Depeche Mode, Metallica, & Bad Religion.  If you like any of these bands, I'm pretty sure you'll like these guys.

Check them out at their official website, or their MySpace page:

Epiphanies suck...

Hey all,
So, I just made an observation that a lot of you have probably already made - I am a champion bloviater (I talk too much in my reviews)!  It hurts to make that realization, but it had to be said.

I found this out when I started watching some of my older reviews - I didn't laugh or smile through the ones that were terribly long (the Borrowers, and the Boogeyman, in particular).  So, to you that had to suffer through some of these, I apologize.

That is why this next year, and possibly with the last two reviews that I plan to do this year, one of which is Christmas related, I will make a conscious effort to trim what I say.  That, and use more vocalization variance, because my monotone isn't that funny...

Thanks to everyone that's stuck through with me this long, and I hope to see you all next year!

If only it were that funny...

Nier Review

Nier? What's Nier? A game I bought because I'm a sucker for the Square-Enix label!  ...That's the nice way to describe it.

I picked this game up about a month ago, and I think I'm about half-way through it now. Once the action starts, and the cut-scenes play, I can't get enough of it! However, up until that point, it's drier than the Sahara desert in August during a solar flare! ...At least, that's how it was starting out.

You play as a man named father (you can give him any name you want, and the game inserts it into the regular dialogue), and you're trying to find a cure for your daughter, Yonah. Along the way, you pick up some npc companions, though you can assign them semi-specific tasks if you want (such as stand back & attack...) I haven't bothered with that quite yet, because father is strong enough to take everything on by himself. Occasionally, the extra characters will help you, but they usually just rant and make other battle cries.

The first npc you get is purely eye-candy, I'm convinced. Her name is Kaine, and she has got to be wearing the most impractical attire for fighting monsters and other demons.

The other companions you get include a witty book named Weiss, which is invaluable - he gives you the ability to cast spells, which you need for boss battles, one in particular is IMPOSSIBLE without them, and I'm sure there are many more to come, since I'm not done yet.

Yes, I did say he is witty - he talks, and talks, and TALKS!  Some of the comments he has are actually funny, while the other 80 - 90% of the dialogue is griping and moaning!

The last guy you get, Emil, starts out normal, but after some key events, he turns into THIS!  However, despite this appearance, he has even more spells to help you out with, which becomes a big help later on.

All in all, if you're a fan of Square-Enix, and you like the style, I'd recommend it strongly.  However, if you're new to Square-Enix titles, this IS NOT the one to evaluate your opinion of them on.  They've made several other good games - just google them, and you'll see what they've made over the years.

That's all for now!
